Kitchen: Before and After

There is nothing more rewarding as a designer than revisiting the “Before” photos of a major renovation. I had the pleasure of working with a great family and contractor, Wells Anderson on the renovation of this Washington Ave kitchen in Savannah.

We tore out all the old 1970s cabinetry, and opened up the floor plan to create a larger, more modern kitchen in this 1930s home. Counter material is a classic Carrera honed marble and the subway tile backsplash is the same stone. New cabinets were custom built and extend to the ceiling for maximum storage. After sanding and repairing the original wood floors, we stained them a dark brown. New pendant lighting, window treatments and fabrics tie together a cohesive design sensibility in this space.

We also added a built-in storage and counter area near the entrance to the kitchen, and by adding new doors on the existing pantry to match the cabinetry, the entrance to the kitchen was transformed into a much more functional space:

By reconfiguring the space plan, we were able to gain bar seating at the counter top as well as a breakfast nook with built-in banquette seating.
